Gardner's book on multiple inteligences clearly sets up the concept of "intelligence" and helps us (cognition students) understand and broaden the knowledge on human procedures "to solve problems and create products that are valued in one or more cultures" (p. 69)

The linguistic intelligence is not an auditory-or form of intelligence, since deaf individuals can acquire natural language and can also devise or master gestural systems. It is also tied to the musical intelligence, which is the ability of individuals to discenr meaning and importance in sets of pitches rhythmically arranged and also to produce metrically arranged pitch sequences as a means of communicating with other individuals" (p.98).

"Musical intelligence" has its own developmental trajectory as its own neurological representation. Although there are strong links between the musical and linguistic intelligence, there are aspects of lnaguage analogous to music (the semantic aspect or the notion of stict rules of grammaticality)(p.125).

NOTE: Whereas linguistic abilities are lateralized almost exclusively to the left hemisphere in normal right-handed individuals, the majority of musical capacities, including the central capacity of sensitivity to pitch, are localized in most normal individuals in the right hemisphere.
